Bristol VR Labs:

VR Story-Telling

Talk & Seminar.

Barry Lewis and I were personally invited to attend this seminar by Catherine Allen, one of the headline speakers for this event. The seminar consisted of talks pertaining to the topic (Story-Telling using Virtual Reality) and a small exhibition space where different companies were exhibiting products specifically aimed towards assisting digital-based companies.

It was quite a prestigious-feeling event, with canapés and drinks being served, and both Barry and I received a goody-bag each with gifts to commemorate the occasion. It was a very eye-opening experience and introduced us to the more corporate side of exhibitions and events.

We found the event very informative and useful and the talks explored different ways that Virtual Reality can be used to enhance perceived immersion on the part of the user and how it could potentially be used to increase learning and the ability to convey a story effectively. A lot of what was discussed we have found very useful when it comes to piecing together projects in a way that can convey the narrative more effectively.

Unfortunately, due to extraneous time constraints, we were unable to stay for the full duration of the event which was very disappointing (at least for myself), but the information that we were able to be present for was incredibly useful and informative.

VR Story-Telling Seminar 2018

As this was a high-profile business event, we did not get the opportunity to take many photos of the event. However, we did take a couple to commemorate the occasion as this was the first official Virtual Reality (VR) seminar and exhibition to which we had been personally invited by one of the speakers for the event. We were invited to attend by Catherine Allen at the launch of our VR Mine Experience for the Radstock Mining Museum.

Due to the scale of the event, there are numerous articles and websites relating to this seminar.

This event took place in 2018, and the pages linked may not be online indefinitely, however for those interested, the following is a link to the article for the event.

Keypoints to take away:

KEY POINT 1

Invited to Attend Seminar

Barry Lewis and I were invited to attend by one of the speakers of the seminar, Catherine Allen, who had attended our Mine Experience release earlier in the year.

KEY POINT 2

Networked with Attendees

We had the opportunity to network with businesses that could be useful when we setup our company in the reception area of the seminar.

KEY POINT 3

Learned About Story-Telling Techniques for VR

The talks were incredibly informative and provided a lot of useful insight as to how we can use various techniques in our own VR applications in order to engage the users.
